Course Summary
This hands-on training program offers a review of clinical research and case studies relating to vascular access and bleeding control. This presentation reviews vascular access options for patients with urgent, emergent, and medically necessary vascular access needs. Attendees will be provided with an in-depth training on peripheral vascular ultrasound, intraosseous vascular access, and hemostatic dressing utilization techniques. We will also review the literature that shows support of intraosseous access as a bridge to definitive vascular access. In addition, a review of device selection, insertion and use will be completed to aide bedside providers in both clinical decision making and insertion skills. In addition to vascular access hands-on training, the attendee will practice hands-on skills related to uncontrolled bleeding.
Course Objectives:
- Review research and evidence-based practice outcomes related to intraosseous (IO) vascular access
- Review anatomical characteristics and locations for vascular access insertion
- Outline device options for vascular access in emergent, urgent, and medically necessary situations
- Practice options for uncontrolled bleeding management
Hands-on Skills:
- Intraosseous Access
- Uncontrolled Bleeding
