Schmitz has spent her entire career in emergency nursing, primarily in a community hospital setting. She has held various positions including staff nurse, charge nurse, nurse educator, nurse manager, and is currently a nursing director overseeing two emergency departments and the obstetrical unit for Southern Maine Health Care in Biddeford, Maine.
Schmitz joined ENA in 2002 as a new graduate nurse and since 2012 has been actively involved at the local, state and national level. She most recently served a two-year term as the President of Maine ENA State Council and was previously on the board of directors. She has served on the national ENA Operations Committee from 2016-2017. Schmitz is both a TNCC and ENPC instructor.
Schmitz earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from the University of Southern Maine in Portland, Maine, and her associate’s degree in Paramedicine from Southern Maine Community College. She later completed her master’s degree in Family Nurse Practitioner at Husson University in Bangor, Maine. She is a certified emergency nurse, certified pediatric emergency nurse, and a certified nurse manager and leader.
