Why do you seek a position on the Leadership Development and Elections Committee?

I have served as a volunteer leader within ENA at state and national levels since 2016. I am seeking the challenge, responsibility and growth that service on the Leadership Development and Elections Committee can provide. I am committed to excellence in leadership and expect the same from all ENA leaders. The professional leadership skills that I have gained in service to ENA on national committees and as a state president, secretary, and member or chair of multiple committees including the nominations and elections committee will assist me to identify with fellow committee members, the leadership qualities critical to preparing a slate of qualified candidates for national elections. I believe that serving on the Leadership Development and Elections Committee would not only provide me with the opportunity to apply the leadership skills I have developed, but also allow me to further advance my knowledge and passion for the ENA.

How does your academic, professional background and experience within ENA make you a qualified Leadership Development and Elections Committee Candidate?

My academic preparation as a registered nurse and advanced practice nurse provided me skills necessary to lead patient care teams efficiently and effectively. The leadership skills I have developed as a charge nurse, advanced practice provider, and volunteer leader in state and national organizations have elevated my ability to discern attributes and limitations of individuals and have contributed to my ability to mentor and guide others in professional development. I appreciate diversity of thought, individual perspectives and talents important to highly functioning and successful teams. By thinking objectively, embracing individual perspectives, and using evidence to make decisions I can work efficiently and effectively with committee members to review and recommend qualified candidates with an appropriate skill mix for national leadership.

Outline the specific skills you bring, or contributions you hope to make to the ENA Leadership Development and Elections Committee.

I am a proven, consistently engaged and productive ENA member at state and national levels since 2016. I am timely, dependable, efficient, and thorough in assignments. My ability to collaborate, problem solve, negotiate and glean details from applications and interviews are traits beneficial to the work of this committee. Throughout my career I have worked collaboratively with nursing and interdisciplinary health care members in professional and patient care teams. My work as a liaison to Alabama ACEP’s state board, with ENA volunteers and council officers has provided me experiences in communication to include articulating ideas and opinions during meetings and group discussions. As Lieutenant of a volunteer fire department for seven years, and continued service to that department I have learned to lead in crisis and calm. I have been able to think on my feet, and make critical decisions quickly. I also learned to use foresight to plan for the unknown but also to use mistakes to improve the team’s efficiency and accuracy. I was respected by other volunteers regardless of age or gender.

Provide a narrative that exemplifies how you demonstrate the Leadership Development and Elections Committee Competencies.

I believe that my experience as a state leader in several different officer roles as well as serving on a national volunteer committee has provided me with the skills to work cooperatively and collaboratively with others to achieve collective goals. While serving in these roles, I was present and engaged in meetings, conference calls, and worked on team projects. Serving on the Alabama State Council Nominations and Elections Committee, has allowed me to strengthen my skills mentoring future leaders and recognizing the potential in ENA members to help them develop and grow in the organization. Serving as a state delegate to the General Assembly for the past eight years and the Leadership Orientation for seven years has advanced my knowledge of the association’s mission, goals, values, governance structure and policies. I more intimately understand the diversity of leadership positions within the structure of ENA.
