Series of courses aims to give ED nurses foundational triage knowledge base

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. (Oct. 19, 2022) – At a time when the importance of quick and accurate initial patient assessments in the emergency department has never been greater, the new ENA Triage Curriculum delivers foundational triage education to support every emergency nurse.

Recently released, this education series features eight courses aimed at giving ED nurses the foundational information they need to triage patients rapidly and accurately. The curriculum digs into topics such as patient symptoms and presentations; disaster and mass casualty situations; special patient populations; and communicating with patients.

“It cannot be understated how crucial triage is to achieving optimal patient outcomes in the emergency department. Educating emergency nurses of all experience levels on how to best to quickly and precisely determine patient acuity and the type of care needed is vital, especially given the ongoing challenges in EDs,” said ENA President Jennifer Schmitz, MSN, EMT-P, CEN, CPEN, CNML, FNP-C, NE-BC.

ENA Triage Curriculum joins the association’s continuum of triage education and resources that also includes the Emergency Severity Index, which is included in the curriculum, and the ongoing research partnership with Mednition.
