Triage, behavioral health and team dynamics content added to successful program
SCHAUMBURG, Ill. (Nov. 4, 2024) – Two years and 70 emergency departments after launching its dynamically successful Emergency Nurses Residency Program, the Emergency Nurses Association raised the bar once again with the recent release of program enhancements that go even further to prepare and support ED nurses.
ENRP’s committed focus remains: Deliver education and resources that academic nurses or nurses transitioning from non-emergency settings need to improve their decision-making skills, clinical judgement and sociocultural acclimation to the emergency department.
The updates, which launched in October, add new content that address several additional key clinical issues, best practices and team dynamics – all with the goal of improving ED nurse retention rates and staff satisfaction, enhancing patient care and better supporting nurse educators.
“Created for emergency nurses by emergency nurses, ENRP has proven itself invaluable in emergency departments across the country since 2022,” said ENA President Chris Dellinger, MBA, BSN, RN, FAEN. “It strengthens teams by reducing new nurse turnover, strengthening clinical skill development and taking a comprehensive approach to setting emergency nurses up for success individually and as part of the care team in the pressure-filled emergency department.”
A study of 275 nurses who completed ENRP overwhelmingly reported the program prepared them to work in, and face the clinical challenges of, the emergency department, as well as to manage the difficulties and stressors commonly experienced by new ED nurses.
“ED staffing levels and burnout remain constant concerns within nearly every emergency department. ENRP has made great strides to help alleviate those struggles by developing confident nurses and strong EDs committed to their future,” Dellinger added.
