Awards Recognize Journal of Emergency Nursing Contributors

Researchers, reviewers and a special contributor to ENA’s peer-reviewed journal earn awards

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. (July 25, 2024) – The Emergency Nurses Association has recognized the best of the Journal of Emergency Nursing for 2023, with awards to the authors of two papers, two reviewers and a special contributor.

JEN is ENA’s per-reviewed academic journal, published six times a year with original research and updates from the emergency nursing specialty, while also covering practice and professional issues.

“These awards are indicative of the quality of not only the authors who are represented in JEN, but of the expertise of those who produce this premier journal devoted to our emergency nursing practice,” said ENA President Chris Dellinger, MSN, BSN, RN, FAEN. “The Journal of Emergency Nursing is an outstanding resource for emergency nurses from the novice to the advance practitioner, from the stretcherside to academia.”

This year’s JEN Author of the Year Award recipients are: 

  • Dawn Peta, BN, RN, ENC(C); Alison Day, PhD, PGCE, RN, FAEN; Walter Sergio Lugari, BSN, RN, FKP-NP; Vanessa Gorman, MSN, BSN, RN; Nurul’Ain Ahayalimudin, PhD, RN, CEN, OHN; and Vientiane Melchizedek T. Pajo, BSN, RN, CEN, TCRN for their clinical paper, “Triage - A Global Perspective.”
  • Matthew J. Douma, MN; Calah Myhre, BScN; Samina Ali, MD; Tim A.D. Graham, MD; Kim Ruether, MA; Peter G. Brindley, MD; Katie N. Dainty, PhD; Katherine E. Smith, MD; Carmel L. Montgomery, PhD; Liz Dennet, MLIS; Christopher Picard, MN; Kate Frazer, PhD and Thilo Kroll, PhD for their research paper, “What Are the Care Needs of Families Experiencing Sudden Cardiac Arrest? A Survivor- and Family-Performed Systematic Review, Qualitative Meta-Synthesis, and Clinical Practice Recommendations.

Significant Contributor of the Year

  • Anne P. Manton, PhD, RN, PMHNP-BC, FAEN, FAAN, who was JEN editor-in-chief from 2013 to 2019.

Reviewers of the Year

  • Judith Bradford, DNS, MSN, RN, FAEN
  • Christopher DePesa, PhD, RN

 “Anne was editor in chief from 2013 to 2019, and she did a wonderful job of leading the journal. Beyond that, she has continued to guide and mentor new editors and editorial board members. Her leadership skills and grace are exemplary,” said Journal of Emergency Nursing Editor-in-Chief Anna Valdez, Ph.D., RN, PHN, CEN, CFRN, FAEN, FAADN. “Judith and Christopher are outstanding peer reviewers. They both invest considerable time providing meaningful feedback for the authors and editors.”

The winners are selected by the JEN editorial board and approved by the ENA Board of Directors.

This year’s Journal of Emergency Nursing award recipients will be formally recognized during Emergency Nursing 2024 in Las Vegas in September.
