With over 1,000 attendees, 2023 marks the most participants in a single year
SCHAUMBURG, Ill. (Nov. 2, 2023) – The Emergency Nurses Association members and supporters from around the world came together last month to participate in a 5K to support emergency nurses.
Designed to bring together people from around the world to celebrate emergency nurses, the virtual 5K drew 1,053 people together as part of ENA's annual Emergency Nurses Week festivities from Oct. 8-14. Participants included 490 runners, 562 walkers and 1 wheelchair athlete. Although the majority of participants were U.S.-based, there were still many international participants from Canada, Mexico, U.K., the Netherlands, Poland, Malaysia, Guam and Australia.
The event acts as a yearly fundraiser with proceeds benefiting the ENA Foundation. The 2023 EN Week 5K brought in more than $54,000, which is $3,000 more than in 2022.
“To see the number of participants and total amount raised each year is just outstanding,” said ENA President Terry Foster, MSN, RN, CEN, CPEN, CCRN, TCRN, FAEN. “It’s amazing to see ED nurses and the public come together for such a great cause while getting out and staying active.”
There are high hopes to break more records in 2024 with expanded participation by both emergency nurses and the public by using the group registration feature where hospitals or companies can register groups of 10 or more.
ENA thanks this year’s EN Week 5K sponsors: Jelly Belly, NSO, Nurse’s Nectar Coffee Company, Popsockets, Teleflex, Wintrust Community Banks and Xtra Mile Running.
