ENA Foundation’s 2019 State Fundraising Challenge Hits Record Total

June 28, 2019 Donations ENA ENA Foundation Scholarships State Fundraising Challenge

Nearly $223,000 collected will fund academic scholarships for emergency nurses

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. (June 28, 2019) – The ENA Foundation’s 2019 State Fundraising Challenge set a new record of $222,249 in donations received – funds that will go to support dozens of academic scholarships for emergency nurses.

The annual campaign kicked off in January with a $190,000 goal, but far exceeded the mark by the end of May thanks to 370 individual donors – also a challenge record – and contributions from 85 state councils and local chapters representing all 50 states.

The Foundation – which serves as the philanthropic arm of the Emergency Nurses Association – received donations from members, past ENA presidents, the ENA Board of Directors, the ENA Foundation Board of Trustees, and state and local chapters. Texas recorded the most individual donors from one state, while Montana, Alaska, Kentucky and Pennsylvania registered the greatest per capita increases in funds raised.

All money collected during the campaign will be used for academic scholarships.

“From the record amount raised to the truly amazing number of individual donations, the 2019 State Fundraising Challenge can only be described as a tremendous success,” said ENA Foundation Chairperson Mickey Forness, BS, RN, CEN. “I am extremely grateful to everyone who participated because their generosity directly impacts the future of emergency nurses who will use these scholarships to enhance their careers.”

The Foundation provides several ways for emergency nurses to further their career. In 2018, it awarded approximately $435,000 in scholarships, continuing education and research grants. ENA President Patti Kunz Howard, PhD, RN, CEN, CPEN, TCRN, NE-BC, FAEN, FAAN, praised the level of commitment shown by ENA members across the country to support the future of emergency nurses through their generosity.

“I am very grateful for the generosity of our members and state councils, as well as the 100 percent participation by the ENA Board of Directors and ENA Foundation Board of Trustees, during the 2019 state challenge.” Howard said. “I am a big believer in paying it forward or giving back whenever possible. The success of this campaign highlights that others share these thoughts. These phenomenal donations provide wonderful support for emergency nurses who receive scholarships that help bolster their careers.”
