980 participants raised $51,000 to support emergency nurses through grants and scholarships
SCHAUMBURG, Ill. (Nov. 1, 2022) – The Emergency Nurses Association and its members certainly took the Emergency Nurses Week “Standing Strong” theme to heart for the EN Week virtual 5K that happened last month.
Designed to bring together people from around the world to celebrate emergency nurses, the virtual 5K drew nearly 1,000 people who registered as part of ENA's annual EN Week festivities. Participants included 429 runners, 550 walkers and 1 wheelchair athlete. This is 218 more participants than in 2021. In addition to having participants from every state, there was also an international presence with Canada, Mexico, The Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, Malaysia, Guam and Australia being represented.
Not only was the participant count outpaced, but the fundraising goal was as well. The 2022 EN Week 5K brought in a total of $51,000 for the ENA Foundation, doubling the total from 2021.
“It’s fabulous to see so many participants turn out for the EN Week 5K to help raise awareness for emergency nurses and the hard work they put in day in and day out,” said ENA President Jennifer Schmitz, MSN, EMT-P, CEN, CPEN, CNML, FNP-C, NE-BC. “The money raised will greatly help the ENA Foundation in continuing their efforts to support ED nurses through scholarships, grants, and educational opportunities.”
There are high hopes to break more records in 2023 with expanded participation by both emergency nurses and the public by using the group registration feature where hospitals or companies can register groups of 10 or more.
