Why do you seek a position on the ENA Board of Directors?

The position of the Emergency Nurses Association Board of Director would be a privilege and honor. I would be fully committed to the duties and obligations maintaining the integrity and vision of ENA. I have spent my career preparing for this to show nurses worldwide how ENA is more than just educational resources; it creates nurturing and sense of family. My passion for ENA is demonstrated by my devotion as an ENA member in California for many years. I would also like to continue to promote diversity and wellness among our members. Being a mentor for new RN graduates keeps me enthusiastic and excited about the future of nursing. I envision the impact being on the board of directors would allow me to share and collaborate to meet our common goals; seeking out innovative strategies to introduce ENA to new and seasoned nurses. Showing others how ENA is more than a website; ENA is a community of nurses worldwide, its empowering. We all share the same values; delivering excellence in patient care and opportunities for continued professional growth.

How does your academic, professional background and experience on the ENA Board make you a qualified Board candidate?

I have had several leadership roles in various emergency departments. My trauma experience consists of Level 1 adult and pediatric trauma in teaching hospitals and urban community hospitals. I have been an emergency department charge nurse for several years which I believe has given me a unique perspective on the situations that often arise and where ENA can make a difference. Being a travel nurse for 7 years offered me the opportunity to work in various ER departments. Teaching me the importance of adaptability, flexibility and improved my critical thinking skills. I have the honor of being a “Stop the Bleed” instructor for the local trauma hospital. I enjoy teaching at the local schools each year and volunteering for “RockMed” providing emergency care to concert attendees. Mentoring nursing students at RockMed events is a passion of mine. It allows me time to show them how to collaborate care in an acute setting. I obtained my master’s degree in Public Administration with an Emphasis in Health Care Management because of my strong interest in health care administration.

Outline the specific skills you bring, or contributions you hope to make to the ENA Board of Directors.

Having been an ENA chapter officer has provided me the opportunity to experience working with all positions. I am able to expertly think independently. I strive hard to keep updated with current trends in healthcare and legislative changes that can impact the association or societal.

I enjoy collaborating with other ENA leaders to achieve goals that are in alignment with the association’s strategic plan. I had the pleasure of being an active participant on an education committee designed to improve pediatric education for the new hires as well as planning the annual skills fair for pediatric readiness.

I have been an ENA National Committee Chair for Quality & Safety and Wellness. This offered a vital leadership experience and was an invaluable learning experience. Being on this committee has given me the opportunity to work with the conference planning for the annual SF ENA Chapter Traumacon for several years now. The chapter conference planning experience was instrumental in my appointment to the Education Conference Planning Committee. I am fully committed and dedicated to continue building my ENA network each year at any ENA conference or state meeting.

Provide a narrative that exemplifies how you demonstrate the Board competencies.
