Rachael Smith, MSN, RN, CEN, CCRN, CPEN, CNE, TCRN, is in her third year as a member of the Emergency Nurses Association Board of Directors.
Smith is an emergency department nursing professional development specialist for Yale New Haven Health serving Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London, Connecticut; Pequot Health Center in Groton, Connecticut; and Westerly Hospital in Westerly, Rhode Island. Previously, she was a professor of senior level associate degree program students in the community college system. Smith has worked in a variety of clinical backgrounds, including child/adolescent psych, medical stepdown, a freestanding ED, and at a Level I trauma ED.
Smith has been actively involved in the ENA at the state and national levels.
Smith was a state delegate from 2016-20 and held various positions, including education chair, secretary, government affairs co-chair and, ultimately, the Connecticut ENA State Council President in 2020. Smith started with ENA’s Conference Education Planning Committee in 2018 and served as co-chair in 2021 to help lead the association’s second-ever fully virtual annual conference.
Smith has presented at multiple conferences including the ENA’s annual conference, ENA Leadership Conference and the New England Regional Symposium. Smith was selected among ENA Connection’s 20 Under 40 Class of 2022.
Smith earned her bachelor’s degree from Widener University in Chester, Pennsylvania, in 2011 and her master’s in nursing education from Sacred Heart University in 2014. She is board certified as a certified nurse educator, emergency nurse, critical care nurse, pediatric emergency nurse, trauma nurse and in nursing professional development.
