ENA Responds to Institute of Medicine Reports on the Future of Emergency Care
ENA responded to three groundbreaking Institute of Medicine (IOM) reports released at IOM’s June 14 press conference. The Future of Emergency Care in the United States Health System series of reports was developed by a 40-member IOM panel of health care experts including three ENA members (Mary M. Jagim, RN, BSN, CEN; Donna Thomas, RN, MSN; RN MS, CEN, CHE, NREMT-P; and Fred Neis, RN, MS, CEN, CHE, NREMT-P). Following the release, ENA reviewed the reports and responded with a nationally distributed news release and an ENA President Nancy Bonalumi, RN, MSN, CEN, (who was present at the press conference) audio cast outlining ENA’s analysis and recommendations—from the perspective of the emergency nurse’s pivotal role in emergency care. ENA thanks RFTechnologies for its support. For more information and access to the audio cast, log on to www.ena.org/future/IOM/default.asp.

Call for CEN® Item Writers
No item writing experience necessary—item writers are a key element to certification. It is the item writers that have clinical expertise in a specialty and use that expert knowledge to initiate items (test questions) specifically for certification in their specialty. At this time, BCEN is taking requests for item writing applications. For more information regarding item writing submission, please go to www.ena.org/bcen/news.
