THE NHLBI HEALTHY PEOPLE 2010 GATEWAY

The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institutes (NHLBI) of the National Institutes of Health has launched a new online health resource:

Through the Gateway, you will have quick, easy access to NHLBI information and resources in four key areas related Healthy People 2010 -- the Federal Government's blueprint for building a healthier Nation over the next 10 years:

• Asthma
• Sleep
• Minority Populations

Each area has its own portal, offering a wealth of resources to help health professionals plan their own Healthy People activities. For example, the portals have:

Statistical information in easy-to-read interactive formats, such as a CHD Mortality by Health Service Area, 1994-96 which you can use to see how your area's health measures up.

• Descriptions of ongoing national education programs and initiatives and innovative activity ideas
• Downloadable files of evidence-based public and professional education materials, in the public domain
• Links to professional coalitions and information exchange resources, such as the NAEPP Asthma Coalition Exchange
• Notices of upcoming meetings, conferences, and exhibits
• Opportunities for long-distance learning with continuing education credits
• Links to popular NHLBI Web-based applications on asthma, sleep, cholesterol, and high blood pressure, as well as to the Federal Government's Healthy People 2010 Web site.
