"Family Presence During Invasive Procedures: Resuscitations in the Emergency Department A Critical Review and Suggestions for Further Research"

This survey describes how healthcare providers felt about families witnessing resuscitation. Nurses had significantly more positive attitudes toward family presence than did attending or resident physicians. Patients felt it was their right to have a family member present and that the option of family presence should be extended to them.

This survey reports multiple benefits to allowing family members to stay with their loved one, including removing doubt about what was happening to the patient and sustaining the patient/family bonding during the experience.
