Reducing Door to Reperfusion Time through Regionalization of STEMI Care: The RACE Project
Sponsored by: Physio-Control
Course Description: The Reperfusion of Acute Myocardial Infarction in Carolina Emergency Departments (RACE) project is a collaborative effort to increase the rate and speed of coronary reperfusion through systemic changes in emergency care. The project is based upon the multidisciplinary teamwork of EMS personnel, physicians, nurses, administrators, and payers from 5 regions and 68 hospitals throughout North Carolina. RACE is expanding to the entire state through launching RACE-ER (Emergency Response) in 2008 and hopes to improve the quality of care provided to the STEMI population regardless of how the patient accesses the system (EMS, self transport, PCI center, non-PCI center).

In addition to reviewing data from RACE, this session will discuss STEMI issues pertinent to ED nurses working in a variety of settings including program implementation, funding, data review, organizing PCI and non-PCI centers, overcoming barriers and the role of emergency nurses and EMSin STEMI programs
