Complete and mail the original application to BCEN, CEN Exam, PO Box 1023, Bedford Park, IL 60499-1023 (Do not mail the application until you are ready to begin your 90-day testing window.)
The 90-day window begins on the processing date with a few days of grace period to allow for mailing.
Applicant receives an authorization letter from BCEN (with the closing date of the 90-day window) and a handbook with explanatory information and guidelines.
Schedule an exam date by calling the toll-free number in the handbook. When scheduling the exam date, ask for the site’s address, phone number and directions to get to the site-reconfirm six weeks prior to the exam date.
On the exam day arrive at the testing site at the scheduled time. Note, that the test proctor will not arrive at the site until the scheduled appointment time. Have your authorization letter in your possession and take two (2) valid forms of identification (described in the handbook).
On site you will complete a site registration and take a picture to include on the score report. There will be an orientation to the computerized testing environment.
No computer calculators or beepers will be allowed.
The computer will administer 175 questions. When taking the exam use the mouse or the keys to choose the best answer.
A score report will be distributed prior to leaving the testing site and within four to six weeks an ID card and certificate will be process.
CEN certification is valid for four years and may be renewed by exam, continuing education or internet based testing.
Approximately 6 months before a CEN’s expiration date, a renewal packet will be sent to the most recent address.
